This article explores the development of the Indonesian mobile market – one of the largest markets in the world in terms of customer base. We first describe the country’s socio-economic environment followed by a discussion of its mobile market landscape, highlighting the key market players and trends in mobile services usage. We then tackle the major developments in the sector primarily in the last three years, i.e. between 2012 and 2014 where we focus on the impact of the ongoing market
consolidation and network deployments. Finally, we provide an outlook for the next few years, highlighting the potentials and challenges for the sector.
