This article examines the evolution from 2008 to 2013 of fixed broadband technologies in 15 Eastern European countries (see Fig. 2 for the list of countries) covered by InfoCom’s quarterly fixed broadband monitoring service, to highlight the changes that happened during the period.
Fixed broadband connections refer to the following technologies: xDSL (ADSL, VDSL, etc.), cable modem (also including Hybrid Fibre Coaxial/ HFC) and fibre optic (fibre-to-the-premises/ FTTP, fibre-to-the-home/ FTTH, and fibre-to-the-building/ FTTB). Note that both residential and business broadband connections are counted. Furthermore, penetration rate is defined as the ratio of total broadband connections over total households.
