According to a recent InfoCom study, data centre services are set to grow strongly over the coming years. Nowadays, huge amounts of application data have to be transported and supported, begging the question of how they should be managed and protected and where they should be placed.
In the data centre market, there are predominantly four kinds of players involved: business customers with their own data centres (e.g. Citigroup), telecom operators with their own data centre services (e.g. AT&T, Interoute, NTT Data, Orange, Tata or Verizon), co-location/hosting providers (e.g. Equinix and Telecity) and IT service companies offering managed solutions (e.g. Atos, Accenture, HP, IBM, Oracle, Unisys or Wipro). For this article we will focus on IT service companies that have their own data centre services behind their managed service offers. We will also take a look at some market drivers and trends surrounding these data centre services.
