Terra Lycos

Terra Lycos was formed in October 2000, as a result of the acquisition by Terra Networks S.A., the ISP of the Spanish carrier Telefonica, providing Internet access to the Spanish and Portuguese speaking world of Lycos Inc., an Internet multi-brand network. In order to avoid geographical overlaps between the two founding partners, Terra committed not to invest in Europe, Asia and North America while Lycos committed not to pursue investments in Latin America. The new Terra Lycos which is headquartered in Barcelona with operating centres in the US and Spain provides Internet services in North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia, operating in 43 countries with services offered in about 20 languages. The European operations are managed through Lycos Europe, present in 14 Western and Central European countries as well as in Russia. Asian operations are managed through Lycos Asia formed at the end of 1999 a joint venture with SingTel, the main operator in Singapore. Lycos Asia is present in 9 countries in the region, including Korea and Japan.
