Quarterly Mobile Monitoring Service
Reflecting the operator’s existing strategy of expanding its mobile coverage and 4G/LTE investments, Telenor reported over 3.2m mobile subscribers in 3Q13, an increase of 21k from the previous quarter and 1% YoY from the same period in 2012. 400k active 4G users have also been reported over the period.
Meanwhile, mobile service revenues over the same period were at 2.6bn NOK (316mn EUR), a decline of about 3% YoY from 2012. Although in part offset by a larger subscriber base, this is due to reduced interconnect rates from January 2013 as well as lower roaming charges, in addition to increased operation and marketing expenses on Telenor’s part. In terms of ARPU, the operator reported a 4% YoY decline, mirroring the growth in mobile subscribers.
Overall, despite growth in Telenor’s mobile subscriber base, the decline in mobile service revenues reflects a negative trend on the operator’s fundamental KPIs.
