Strong synergies between telecom services and energy transition

Published: 2016-11-16

The vast majority of the ICT services used to realise or push the energy transition are not completely new offers, nor are they solely used by the energy related sector. Nevertheless, there is an important cross-fertilisation effect of ICT offers and energy transition projects. For example, smart grids are essential for the energy transition to manage the distributed production sites of renewable energy sources. Further, cities wanting to reduce the air pollution by cars become interested in smart parking and e-car charging site solutions. Or else, their obligation to reduce the energy consumption makes smart lighting interesting. All of these solutions require a large variety of ICT solutions. The energy transition will thus be a promising field for any ICT actor. Nevertheless, the timeline and the revenue levels remain difficult to predict. At any rate security will be a key issue for any of these services.
