Pay TV opportunities in Eastern Europe arise despite market saturation

Published: 2016-07-13

The article discusses the current developments of the pay TV market in Eastern Europe, also tackling emerging trends and opportunities in this market space. The figures mentioned in this article are based on InfoCom Quarterly Television Monitoring service. In many of these markets, pay TV could benefit from market consolidation – particularly the CaTV sector – to achieve scale and operational synergies that could free up some cash in order to fund infrastructure upgrades. We also expect more local and regional video OTT companies in Eastern Europe offering low-cost subscription service. Finally, for countries with saturated pay TV markets such as in Hungary, Romania, etc. operator strategies will be more focused on increasing ARPU to counter the effect of declining subscriber base.
