BRICS national broadband goals: China and Russia most likely to achieve targets

This article examines the fixed broadband market in five major developing economies namely Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (collectively known as BRICS) between 2012 and 2014. We first discuss an overview of the broadband evolution in these countries followed by a discussion on the development of the different fixed broadband technologies. We then analyse the progress of their National Broadband Plans and provide our assessment of whether these markets are on track to achieve them. Finally, we provide an outlook for the segment in the next few years, highlighting key potentials and threats in their respective markets.
