Potential and risk in Cambodia’s mobile market

Since the late 90s’, Cambodia is rebuilding from decades of civil war and, in more recent years, has seen a rapid, accelerating economic and social progress. Garments, construction, agriculture, and tourism have driven Cambodia's growth, resulting in a GDP that climbed more than 6% per year between 2010 and 2012. Cambodia’s development process has been catalysed and fuelled with financial support from the international community through foreign aid and investments from more developed countries – addressing specifically the development of the infrastructure — as well as from international institutions, such as the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank and IMF. Over the next decade, one of the main challenges for Cambodia will be shaping an economic environment, in which the private sector can create enough jobs to tackle Cambodia's demographic imbalance as more than 50% of its population is less than 25 years old.
