The new Tele2

Published: 2009-03-05

The new Tele2 made its debut in February 2001 when NetCom AB, which was formed in 1993 and merged with SEC activities in October 2000, had been renamed Tele2 AB. With this decision, all former activities of Netcom in the Scandinavian regions and those of Tele2 Europe at the central European level have been combined under one legal group with one name, now called Tele2, a denomination which before was used purely as a brand within parts of former Netcom subsidiaries.

This new pan-European telecommunications carrier offers fixed and mobile telephony, data communications and Internet services still under several brands: Tele2, Tango, Comviq and Q-GSM. Additionally, the group controls Datametrix, specialising in systems integration; Optimal Telecom and 3C Communications, operating public pay telephones and public Internet services; and Transac, providing billing and transaction processing services. The Group also offers cable TV services under the Kabelvision brand name. Some former Tele2 Europe operations in continental Europe are currently still managed through a controlling stake of the new Tele2 AB in the holding Societe Europeenne de Communication SA (SEC) whether this holding will continue to exist is quite uncertain.
