Telecom sectors revenue
As seen from Fig. 1, total telecom revenues in Italy have grown every year from 1998 to 2001, reaching € 28.5 bn in 2001, an 8% growth over the previous year. The slight decline of fixed telephony revenues, -5% over the four-year period, has been offset by the increase in mobile telephony and, to a lesser extent, in Internet and datacom revenues. Although Internet services experienced the highest growth, 63%, in 2001, it still accounts for only 2% of the total, with € 0.7bn. With a very limited cable infrastructure, CATV remains also extremely small in Italy, not even registering 1% of the total.
