Published: 2009-03-04

This article provides an overview of VoIP connections over broadband in Eastern Europe focusing on the countries of Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia.

Please note that we for instance did not look at the Czech Republic as the Czech incumbent only began offering VoIP by the end of 2007 and prior to this nearly all VoIP connections were provided by UPC Czech. After illustrating the recent trends in the VoIP market, there follows a brief discussion on the competitive market environment within these four countries. Finally, an outlook provides a forecast and analysis of the VoIP impact on the whole fixed line market segment. Please note that a VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) connection is defined as a VoIP service over a broadband connection without any fixed line connection in addition.
